One Village Cultural  Practice Series 2019 – Professor Kerry Arabena

Dr Kerry Arabena is a former Social worker with a Doctorate in Human Ecology.She has an extensive background in public health, administration, communitydevelopment and research. Kerry’s years of work and dedication have brought herto the forefront of Indigenous affairs in Australia.

Most recently she was the Chair of Indigenous Health and Director of theIndigenous Health Equity Unit at the University of Melbourne and led the development and implementation of the First 1000 Days Australia initiative.An initiative that aims to provide a coordinated and comprehensive strategy to strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families so they can address their children’s needs from pre‐conception to two years of age, thereby laying the best foundation for their future health and wellbeing.

A descendant of the Meriam people from the Torres Strait, Dr Arabena is an author and business owner, a mother and grandmother, with interests in achieving equity for all Australians.
