Australian Early Development Index

The Australian Early Development Index (AEDI) was first implemented nationwide in 2009.The AEDI is a population measure of young children’s development in communities across Australia. The AEDI results give a snapshot of children's development across five key areas of early childhood development;

  • Physical health and wellbeing
  • Social competence
  • Emotional maturity
  • Language and cognitive skills (school-based)
  • Communication skills and general knowledge

These areas are closely linked to the predictors of good adult health, education and social outcomes.

Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development

The Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has a series of Early Childhood Community Profiles which draw on data on outcomes for children compiled through the Victorian Child and Adolescent Monitoring System (VCAMS). These profiles provide local level information on the health, learning, development, safety and wellbeing of children aged 0 to 8 years.
